Psychiatrists shock, drug disabled children - Health Supreme NewsGrabs 25 September 2011
USA: New York State sends disabled kids to be electroshocked
The city and state spend millions to treat severely disabled children in controversial out-of-state clinics - including two that have faced criminal probes for mishandling students.
Education officials have paid nearly $13 million this year to treat 117 city kids at Judge Rotenberg Educational Center outside Boston, the only clinic in the country that uses electric shock treatments to discipline students.
The clinic's director resigned in June in a plea deal to avoid jail after he tried to cover up the wrongful administration of shocks.
Australia: Mental health care inquiryThe inquiry follows a report in The Saturday Age exposing the high rates of unexpected and unnatural deaths in the state's mental health wards, and raising serious questions about standards of care and allegations of cover-ups.
Today, The Age publishes new revelations about the use of electric shock therapy in Victoria, with documents showing how hundreds of mentally ill people are forced to undergo the procedure without their consent.
In a new study published today in the American Journal of Family Therapy, lead researcher Dr. Robert M. Pressman announces for the first time a direct link between bedtime routines and behavior that mimics ADHD in children. The findings propose that of the over 5 million children who are now being treated with ADHD medication, a majority may be suffering from Faux-ADHD, a disorder linked to irregular bedtimes and bed sharing, and does not require medication. The study conducted by researchers at the New England Center for Pediatric Psychology and the Rhode Island College Department of Special Education suggests that simple adjustments to bedtime habits, rather than medication, can eliminate ADHD-like behavior, such as poor attention and hyperactivity.
Are Psychiatric Medications Making Us Sicker?Three years ago, I was reminded in dramatic fashion of the chasm between psychiatry and more-effective branches of medicine. My 14-year-old son, Mac, while playing lacrosse, emerged from a collision with his right arm askew. I drove him to a local hospital, where an orthopedic surgeon on duty immediately diagnosed the injury: dislocated elbow. He gave Mac an oral and local anesthetic and put him in a portable X-ray machine that showed Mac's elbow joint on a screen, in real time. Watching the screen, the doctor quickly snapped Mac's elbow back into place.
Overcome with gratitude to the doctor, I was leading my groggy son out of the hospital when my cellphone rang. An old friend, whom I'll call Phil, was on the line. He was in the psychiatric ward of a New York hospital, to which his 16-year-old son had been committed. The boy, who was taking antidepressants for depression, had threatened to commit suicide, not for the first time. The doctors were recommending electroconvulsive therapy, or ECT. Knowing that I had written about shock therapy and other psychiatric treatments, Phil asked my opinion. The fact that Phil had called me, a mere journalist, for advice in such a dire situation spoke volumes about the troubles of modern psychiatry...
Europe: Herbal Medicines laws unworkable - Commission defiantHere is bureaucracy at what it does best: In this case, a new law has eliminated a whole category of health products from the market. The EU Commission pretends that everything is fine... but the matter is complicated and involved. The sheer bungling of those bureaucrats boggles the mind. If you would like to get a whiff of legislative insanity, the ANH discussion of the European Commission's answer to 23 written questions filed by a member of the EU Parliament is a good place to start ...

Olive oil, nuts more effective than heart meds: Spanish researchersOne of the researchers, Dr Miguel Angel Martinez-Gonzalex, from the Department of Preventative Medicine at the University of Navarra, said the findings emphasized the value of dietary versus pharma interventions in controlling cardiovascular event likelihood.
They showed that "a modification in the entire diet pattern managed to achieve, in just one year, results that pharmaceutical drugs did not - even after two years of treatment."
Red Cabbage Found To Contain 36 Substances With Anti-Cancer PropertiesRed cabbage contains 36 different varieties of anthocyanins, a class of flavonoids that have been linked to cancer protection, according to a new study conducted by researchers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.
Anthocyanins are naturally occurring pigments that give fruits and berries their red, blue and purple coloration. A variety of studies have shown that in addition to protecting against cancer, anthocyanins can improve heart health and brain function.
Want to Live Longer? Turn Off Your TVThe TV-viewing data from more than 11,000 participants older than 25 years showed that Australian adults watched an estimated 9.8 billion hours of television in 2008. People who watched an average six hours of TV a day lived an average 4.8 years fewer than those who didn't watch any television, the study found.
Even more humbling: every hour of TV that participants watched after age 25 was associated with a 22-minute reduction in their life expectancy.
"CAN'T WE ALL GET ALONG?" - THE CAPTURE OF ALTERNATIVE HEALTH“Everything’s good. All we have to do is craft language the politicians and bureaucrats can understand and accept, and they will reach their hands across the divide, because, in the final analysis, all that separates people is a diversity of background and experience. We can integrate that.”
In the 1960s, this whole process was called co-opting. Government or big business would find ways to absorb (“integrate”) its opposition.

'Quackbusters' and 'Skeptics' - an update by Tim BolenIt is the "quackbusters" job to do two things: (a) discourage or make certain that no innovation is allowed that would change this paradigm. They need to make sure that none of these health issues are ever fixed, nor even properly addressed, especially with health paradigms that compete for health dollars generated by drugs and surgery, and (b) demonize those that criticize the status quo (anti-vaccinations, fluoride, mercury amalgam, aspartame, GMO, dental root canals, etc.).
The questions that arise, of course, are: "What kind of people would create this horror for Americans and others around the world? Who would do this to other humans?. Are they sociopaths, psychopaths, sub-humans with pervasive personality disorders?
UK: Southampton city council pledges not to fluoridate waterSouthampton councillors have voted to oppose controversial plans to fluoridate the city's water supplies.

Fraud, incompetence, poor math, and drug advice so bad it may as well be a magical spell — you name it, you’ll find it in a “leading” medical journal right now… disguised as scientific research.
It’s so bad that the number of retractions in supposedly peer-reviewed journals has risen 15-fold over the past decade, from 22 in 2001 — 22 too many in my book — to a whopping 339 last year, according to a new study.
Pharma Faces Fraud Charges, But What About The Doctors?Amid the headlines and hoopla surrounding the stiff fines that many drugmakers have paid in recent years for off-label marketing, doctors almost always go untouched. To be specific, 15 drug and device makers paid $6.5 billion since 2008 to settle charges of fraud and kickbacks, but none of the more than 75 doctors who were named as participants were sanctioned, according to ProPublica.

Statins, a Drug Considered for Food Condiment Status, Increase Blood Sugar & Lead to DiabetesTo summarize, statin risks include:
- Diabetes
- Memory Loss
- Myopathy (nerve damage)
- Rhabdomyolysis (muscle breakdown)
- Liver damage
- Dermatomyositis (skin and muscle inflammation, an autoimmune disorder)Statins are one of the most insidious drugs ever developed, and they are more and more routinely being given out by doctors to anyone who has reached age 40 or 50. They’ve been suggested as equivalent to food condiments that should be given out at fast food restaurants. They’re being included in polypills that are to be taken by everyone over a certain age. And all this goes on in the face of more and more evidence of their devastation on health.
Gardasil and unexplained deathsHi. My name is Christina Richelle Tarsell, but people call me Chris. I celebrated my 21st birthday in November 2007. I did not live to see my 22nd. Suddenly, unexpectedly, and inexplicably, I died in bed in June 2008. After an extensive autopsy, the cause of death is still a mystery. My family wants to know what happened to me. My family has concerns about the HPV vaccine, Gardasil, which I had received only days before my death...

The Age of Polio: How an Old Virus and New Toxins Created a Man-made EpidemicIn 1949, the same year as the Life article, Drs. Morton S. Biskind and Irving Bieber published “DDT Poisoning – A New Symptom With Neuropsychiatric Manifestations” in the American Journal of Psychotherapy. “By far the most disturbing of all the manifestations are the subjective reactions and the extreme muscular weakness,” they reported.[ii]
In subsequent papers and testimony, Biskind linked DDT directly to cases of poliomyelitis – including a Dec. 12, 1950, statement to the Select Committee to Investigate the Use of Chemicals in Food Products, United States House of Representatives.[iii] He quoted another doctor that “wherever DDT had been used intensively against polio, not only was there an epidemic of the syndrome I have described but the incidence of polio continued to rise and in fact appeared where it had not been before.
“This is not surprising since it is known that not only can DDT poisoning produce a condition that may easily be mistaken for polio in an epidemic but also being a nerve poison itself, may damage cells in the spinal cord and thus increase the susceptibility to the virus.”
