Growing our own food ... nutrient dense - Health Supreme NewsGrabs 18 September 2011

The Nutrient Dense Project

We are growing food using Organic, Biodynamic, Permaculture, Biological, and “conventional” methods in all sorts of combinations with one overarching goal: To learn how to grow the healthiest, best tasting and most nutritious food that has ever been grown, and to do it in harmony with Nature and the Earth.

Video: Welcome to BACK TO EDEN - How to garden with little water and little effort

"... Once you have seen and sampled that garden you can never imagine plain old dirt gardening again. The tour and instructions from Paul are different than what you imagine it will be. This man is connected to his garden in a way that defies explanation. His awe for what God has created in nature, and what we can do if we humble ourselves and learn from that, comes across as the most genuine respect for the creator that I have ever witnessed." – Carla Hartley, California & Oklahoma

Primary component in turmeric kicks off cancer-killing mechanisms in human saliva

Curcumin, the main component in the spice turmeric, suppresses a cell signaling pathway that drives the growth of head and neck cancer, according to a pilot study using human saliva by researchers at UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Turmeric is a naturally occurring spice widely used in South Asian and Middle Eastern cooking and has long been known to have medicinal properties, attributed to its anti-inflammatory effects. Previous studies have shown it can suppress the growth of certain cancers. In India, women for years have been using turmeric as an anti-aging agent rubbed into their skin, to treat cramps during menstruation and as a poultice on the skin to promote wound healing.

Why You Need More Vitamin D. A Lot More.

Vitamin D has emerged as the nutrient of the decade. Numerous studies have found benefits for nearly 100 types of health conditions.

Scientist aims to unlock medical potential of marijuana
Genome expert founds firm, posts genetic info online

"The science has been stigmatized and silenced over the years," says 38-year-old Kevin McKernan, a Marblehead resident on the forefront of the medicinal marijuana scientific revolution.

"When people learn about this (medical potential), their first reaction is surprise; their second reaction is anger" that more is not being done.

International Drug Policy Reform Conference - Los Angeles, 2-5 November 2011

The International Drug Policy Reform Conference is a biennial event that brings together people from around the world who believe that the war on drugs is doing more harm than good. It brings together over 1,000 attendees representing 30 different countries.

Canadian Researchers to publish genetic codes for more than 70 medicinal plants

"The creation of a public resource of genetic information for plants that produce a large number of important and valuable natural products is an important milestone in our project," says Facchini, a professor of biological sciences at the University of Calgary and co-leader of the PhytoMetaSyn Project, which started two years ago and involves scientists from universities and research institutes from across the country.

"We are completing the analysis of the genetic codes for nearly 75 plant species and are making them accessible on-line as they become available with the hopes of having the entire set in our web portal by the end of February 2012.

"Genomic information of that nature and scale is a treasure trove for synthetic biologists," says PhytoMetaSyn co-leader Vincent Martin, a professor in the Concordia Department of Biology. "It provides access to many genes or parts that can be used to produce molecules on an industrial scale."

The project also has a team looking at the ethics, economics, legal and social implications of the science. "An interesting question is, who actually owns this genetic information?" asks Facchini. "We're releasing it publically because we feel it belongs to everyone. We discovered it, but we didn't invent it."

UK: England’s ‘water fluoridation functions’ to be passed to local authorities

Under the new Bill, ‘water fluoridation functions’ will pass from the notoriously authoritarian Strategic Health Authorities (SHAs) to local authorities, such as county or district councils. Since such bodies are, in theory, much more answerable to the people who vote them in, this change should give more say to residents when the ugly subject of water fluoridation comes up.

For more discussion on fluoridation in the UK, you can check out the UK Councils Against Fluoridation website. Their most recent news: "Health Authority abandons plans to fluoridate North West England".

'White' light suppresses the body's production of melatonin

Exposure to the light of white LED bulbs, it turns out, suppresses melatonin 5 times more than exposure to the light of High Pressure Sodium bulbs that give off an orange-yellow light. "Just as there are regulations and standards for 'classic' pollutants, there should also be regulations and rules for the pollution stemming from artificial light at night," says Prof. Abraham Haim of the University of Haifa.

Are you shy? Then you have a mental disorder

There is a great deal of scepticism towards Wittchen’s results and what they mean. And no wonder. Even in these overly medicalised times, where feeling well is increasingly confused with awaiting diagnosis, the idea that well over a third of Europe is suffering from a mental disorder just doesn’t tally with our actual lived experience. After all, does it not seem absurd to think that one in every three Europeans is mentally ill?

In fact, what Wittchen’s findings really indicate is the expansion of the diagnostic categories of mental illness, not the expansion of mental illness itself.

As many have observed before, absurdity abounds in the psychiatric worldview. The most banal of everyday behaviours, emotional states that I’d wager almost everyone has encountered at some point in their lives, have been given technical, medical-sounding names. So shyness becomes ‘avoidant personality disorder’; anger becomes ‘intermittent explosive disorder’; and if the experts get their way, not throwing stuff away will become ‘hoarding disorder’.

Merck's Gardasil contains viral DNA - Recall urged in New Zealand

The discovery that some batches contain HPV DNA contradicts the Medsafe data sheets statement that the vaccine does not contain viral DNA."

"virus-like particles are adsorbed onto an aluminium-containing adjuvant (amorphous aluminium hydroxyphosphate sulfate, or AAHS)?Because the virus-like particles contain no viral DNA, they cannot infect cells or reproduce."

"The finding raises concerning issues around the safety of such genetically engineered vaccines and the purification processes they undergo, as many are produced from virus-like particles bonded to aluminium salts," said Claire Bleakley president of GE-Free NZ.

"It is now apparent that the method used to detect whether functional HVP DNA is transferred into the vaccines is defective."

USA: Was Texas Governor Perry Wrong to Push HPV Vaccine?

In addition to causing fainting, allergic reactions, Guillain-Barré Syndrome and blood clots, girls have died after receiving the vaccines, according to the CDC, though the vaccine is not clearly the cause. Trials were suspended in India in April after the vaccine was suspected in the deaths of six children in clinical trials.

Critics also question the science behind clinical studies that make the vaccines look effective against placebo and they do not understand why cervical cancer, not malaria, Dengue fever or potable water, is a burning third world is$sue.

Breastfeeding 'interferes with vaccination' ??

Children in poor countries do not develop as many antibodies as those in wealthy nations. Rather than ask whether it may be an indication that their bodies are refusing for a good reason, medical researchers assume that it's bad. Therefore, they're making a couple of the most inane suggestions imaginable.

Their suggestions include:

- Delay breastfeeding so that it won't "interfere" with the development of antibodies.
- Medically modify gut biota in healthy children.

Bobby Kennedy Junior, Vaccines and Wikipedia...
by Tim Bolen

I am researching and writing a series on what I call the "vaccine construction." Of course I came across Kennedy's writings on the subject, and his TV appearances. I read it all.

And, I liked every damned bit of it. Good for you Bobby...

Let me tell you what I don't like...

Economy: What's the Problem With Unearned Income?

Making a fortune and living off the interest is central to the American Dream. We aspire to luxury and leisure. But investment income is a bad dream.

Eventually, unearned income leads to increasing poverty, unrestrained corporate plunder, devastation of the environment, human rights abuses, war, deceit, and misery for almost everyone.
