Monsanto Sued Over GM Eggplant - Health Supreme NewsGrabs 14 August 2011
India Sues Monsanto Over Genetically-Modified Eggplant
The already-explosive politics surrounding genetically-modified (GM) eggplant (brinjal) in India is getting still more explosive with a government agency’s decision to prosecute the developers of the insect resistant-eggplant eggplant.
In 2009, Indian regulators gave the insect resistant eggplant carrying the Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) gene the green light, but India’s former minister of the environment, Jairam Ramesh, imposed an indefinite moratorium on its cultivation only a few months later. The National Biodiversity Authority of India (NBA) has decided to sue Monsanto, the St. Louis, MO-based biotechnology power-house, and the company’s Indian partners who developed the Bt eggplant.
The controversial move by NBA is based on a complaint filed in 2010 by the Bangalore-based Environment Support Group (ESG), which alleges that the developers violated India’s Biological Diversity Act of 2002 by using local eggplant varieties in developing Bt eggplant without prior approval from NBA.
270,000 Organic Farmers Sue MonsantoMore than 270,000 organic farmers are taking on corporate agriculture giant Monsanto in a lawsuit filed March 30. Led by the Organic Seed Growers and Trade Association, the family farmers are fighting for the right to keep a portion of the world food supply organic—and preemptively protecting themselves from accusations of stealing genetically modified seeds that drift on to their pristine crop fields.
United Nations Invites Mark Geier MD to Lead Charge Against Vaccine IndustryWait a minute? Didn't the vaccine industry claim that they took Thimerosal out of childhood vaccines? Yes, they claimed that - and they lied. They actually did just a show removal, taking Thimerosal out of only 3.48 percent of those vaccines - and all of that was in the US, attempting to mollify, and mislead, American parents of damaged children. About 104 million childhood vaccines are administered, worldwide, each year, and only about 4 million have a preservative other than Thimerosal.
More, despite massive cover-up by the vaccine industry, it is becoming obvious throughout the world that the childhood vaccine schedule is the worst disaster foisted on the human population in Earth's history. After the US government attacked Iraq, and Afghanistan, we forced, at gunpoint, Iraqi and Afghan children into the vaccine program - and the results were predictable. All of those vaccines were jam-packed with mercury.
Think of this - ONE vaccine contains 25 times the amount of mercury allowable in the average human body. The childhood vaccine schedule requires 38 vaccines during the first year of life - 950 times the safe levels for mercury in the average human body - and these are children - much smaller than the "average" human.
DIRTY SECRET BEHIND RAWESOME RAIDHere it is: THE FDA WAS ONE OF THE AGENCIES THAT RAIDED RAWESOME.
Why is that dirty? Because while FDA is clucking about raw milk, it is continuing to hide THE LARGEST CRIME IN AMERICAN HISTORY.
THE FDA, YOU SEE, HAS APPROVED DRUGS, AS SAFE AND EFFECTIVE, THAT KILL 106,000 PEOPLE A YEAR.
The truth has finally surfaced. The members of the Rawesome buyer’s club are all addicts, and their drug of choice is raw milk.
The raid on their shooting gallery in Venice was just a prelude to a much larger bust, which will no doubt require the cooperation of the Mexico state police.
How many tons of raw milk are coming up through the Tijuana border?
And how many kids outside schools in LA are being given little pints of milk, as a come-on, to reel them in?
American Medical Association attacks nutritional supplements - againIn summary, this position paper in JAMA pretty much qualifies as sanctimonious claptrap. And this from the group (organized medicine) that, according to its own figures, may be the single leading cause of death in the United States today. Heck, at 106,000 "reported" deaths a year, side effects from prescription medicine alone rank as the 4th leading cause of death. But make no mistake, this is not about health; it's about money! The article states its position so eloquently early on, "For US health professionals, the fact that more than 150 million US residents use dietary supplements should be a point of concern as many users will almost certainly forgo conventional medical treatment in favor of using [dietary supplements]."
Aspartame May Cause FibromyalgiaIn the body, aspartame releases methanol (wood alcohol), which can be converted to formaldehyde. In the United States, formaldehyde has recently been added to the official list of cancer-causing chemicals. Animal studies show that aspartame at permitted levels increases the risk of several types of cancer.
An article in the Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology journal published in December 2010 describes aspartame’s ability to induce fibromyalgia. This condition is characterized by pain and tenderness in the muscles. The paper describes two case studies in which fibromyalgia appears to be caused by ingestion of aspartame.
How Statins Work Explains Why They Don't Really WorkI predict that the statin drug run is about to end, and it will be a hard landing. The thalidomide disaster of the 1950's and the hormone replacement therapy fiasco of the 1990's will pale by comparison to the dramatic rise and fall of the statin industry. I can see the tide slowly turning, and I believe it will eventually crescendo into a tidal wave, but misinformation is remarkably persistent, so it may take years.
I have spent much of my time in the last few years combing the research literature on metabolism, diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer's, and statin drugs. Thus far, in addition to posting essays on the web, I have, together with collaborators, published two journal articles related to metabolism, diabetes, and heart disease (Seneff1 et al., 2011), and Alzheimer's disease (Seneff2 et al., 2011). Two more articles, concerning a crucial role for cholesterol sulfate in metabolism, are currently under review (Seneff3 et al., Seneff4 et al.). I have been driven by the need to understand how a drug that interferes with the synthesis of cholesterol, a nutrient that is essential to human life, could possibly have a positive impact on health. I have finally been rewarded with an explanation for an apparent positive benefit of statins that I can believe, but one that soundly refutes the idea that statins are protective. I will, in fact, make the bold claim that nobody qualifies for statin therapy, and that statin drugs can best be described as toxins.
Pfizer at last starts payout to Nigeria drug-trial victimsUS pharmaceutical giant Pfizer has begun long-awaited compensation payments to families over a 1996 drug trial blamed for the deaths of 11 children and disabilities in dozens of others.
But the payments, which started on Thursday, were initially distributed only to four families, while some 200 children participated in the trial of meningitis drug, Trovan.
Parents of four of the children who died as a result of the trial received cheques of $175,000 each at a reception in the northern Nigerian city of Kano, where the trial took place.
I suppose you all remember John Le Carré's novel "The Constant Gardener". If you haven't read it or seen the movie that was made from it, this would be a good time to get a copy now. (Rotten Tomatoes - movie review) (Amazon for the book)
Psychotropic Drugs: A Troubling Staple of Foster CareA multistate study published in 2010 found that psychotropic drug use among children in foster care more than doubled over the previous decade. Equally troubling was the evidence that these children are anywhere from four to 12 times more likely to be prescribed psychotropic drugs than the general youth population.
The plan, detailed in a paper published in the journal Solar Energy, would use an array of mirrors spread across a hillside, aimed to focus sunlight on the top of the tank of salt below. The system could be "cheap, with a minimum number of parts," says Slocum, the Pappalardo Professor of Mechanical Engineering at MIT and lead author of the paper. Reflecting the system's 24/7 power capability, it is called CSPonD (for Concentrated Solar Power on Demand).
The new system could also be more durable than existing CSP systems whose heat-absorbing receivers cool down at night or on cloudy days. "It's the swings in temperature that cause [metal] fatigue and failure," Slocum says. The traditional way to address temperature swings, he says: "You have to way oversize" the system's components. "That adds cost and reduces efficiency."
Climate Depot: Gore Unhinged! Loses it on skeptical claimsFormer Vice President Al Gore sounded a defeated tone and lamented the utter failure of the man-made global warming movement during a speech to the Aspen Institute in Colorado on August 4, 2011. Gore used multiple curse words in an emotional speech that revealed his deep frustration and all but conceded defeat to global warming skeptics.
Gore also compared today's global warming skeptics to the "evil, evil, evil" tobacco promotion campaigns of decades ago.
A Six-Step Extreme Makeover for the EconomyA shift from the pursuit of more, bigger, faster, cheaper, nastier, to the pursuit of lives lived meaningfully well. The catch is: we're not taking it yet.
So here's the question: if the challenge is raising societies up to higher levels of prosperity — meaningfully well lived lives — then what are the levers that are powerful enough to begin doing do so?
Here's a quick take: six steps I believe advanced economies will have to take to make the quantum leap to 21st century prosperity...
