What can we do about death? Reinventing the American medical system

"The real problem is that we have medicine excessively driven by progress, which aims to rid us of death and disease and treats them as the targets of unlimited medical warfare," said Callahan and Nuland. "That warfare, however, has come to look like the trench warfare of World War I: great human and economic cost for little progress. Neither infectious disease nor the chronic diseases of an aging society will soon be cured. Cancer, heart disease, stroke, and Alzheimer's disease are our fate for the foreseeable future. Medicine and the public must adapt it to that reality, one that has mainly brought us lives that end poorly and expensively in old age."

This sounds to me like modern medicine is admitting defeat and "re-trenching" into a less precarious, less spend-thrift position.

In reality, there is MUCH that can be done to make medicine both more effective and less expensive. We need basic research into the causes of disease, not just into how to fight it with ever more expensive procedures and pharmaceutical medicines. We have millennial health traditions that are being crowded out and prohibited, rather than made good use of. Look at what just happened to herbs of the Eastern medical traditions in Europe, what's happening to high dose nutrient supplements.

Prevention and healthy living can bring about a situation where disease is not an inevitable consequence of our lifestyle. We do not have to be automatic candidates for cancer, heart disease, stroke and Alzheimer's.

Perhaps, with an ounce of prevention and some real knowledge of the causes of disease, medicine would not be as expensive as it is ... where we have to think about rationing treatments and eventually withholding them from older people, because we can no longer pay for all that "health".

Dirty Medicine - The Handbook

Dirty_Medicine.jpg

Dirty Medicine: The handbook is Martin Walker’s twenty year follow up to his book, Dirty Medicine: Science, big business and the assault on natural health care. In this new book Walker gives a full and detailed picture of the vested interests, their personalities, organisations and ideas that have shaped the present attack on alternatives in the field of health. Alternative and complementary medicine is under attack on all fronts, The Handbook gives us the knowledge with which to defend ourselves and fight back. And perhaps, one might add, it gives us the strength of resolve needed to deeply reform our system of medicine to target the attainment of good health, not just management of disease.

Please give a hand to Martin Walker, buy a book or better yet, buy several to give as gifts to your local health officials or, if you can, review and promote it. Few have done as much as Martin to expose the damage modern medicine does, and the dirty business practices behind it...

Book review: The Epidemic of Mental Illness: Why?

It seems that Americans are in the midst of a raging epidemic of mental illness, at least as judged by the increase in the numbers treated for it. The tally of those who are so disabled by mental disorders that they qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) increased nearly two and a half times between 1987 and 2007—from one in 184 Americans to one in seventy-six. For children, the rise is even more startling—a thirty-five-fold increase in the same two decades.

What is going on here? Is the prevalence of mental illness really that high and still climbing? Particularly if these disorders are biologically determined and not a result of environmental influences, is it plausible to suppose that such an increase is real? Or are we learning to recognize and diagnose mental disorders that were always there? On the other hand, are we simply expanding the criteria for mental illness so that nearly everyone has one? And what about the drugs that are now the mainstay of treatment? Do they work? If they do, shouldn’t we expect the prevalence of mental illness to be declining, not rising?

Paper Examines Codex Standard Confusion

While the goals of the Codex Alimentarius are to protect consumers' health and ensure fair practices in food trade , product claims and safety misunderstandings have interfered with progress, according to a recently published paper.

The authors of the paper cautioned that too often regulatory agencies make policy decisions based solely on the results of randomized control trials or the “risk perception" of the public at large. The authors argue that these can be poor methods for determining the role and safety of nutrients in supporting good health. Instead, the authors maintain that these policy decisions should be made based on the entire body of evidence available, including observational data, and identifying acceptable safety limits should be based “on a robust scientific approach."

Codex Meets in Canada to discuss Food (GMO) Labeling

Fellow blogger Chris Gupta reports from Quebec City, Canada, on a Codex Alimentarius meeting to discuss food labeling. There seems to be much resistance by the GM industry to tell us which foods are genetically modified and which ones aren't. Truthfully labeling GM foods could be bad for business, I guess.

Codex Alimentarius Guideline to 'allow' labeling of GMO foods

After some eighteen years and seemingly interminable debates between two sharply divided camps, the Codex Committee on Food Labelling (CCFL), at its 39th session held in Quebec City, Canada, the week of May 9-13, 2011, finally reached a consensus on a watered-down labeling guideline for GMO foods. No thanks to the blocking efforts of the United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Costa Rica, and Australia, this Guideline does not require mandatory labeling of GMO foods. However, what it does accomplish is to provide protection from the World Trade Organization (WTO) for those countries that require genetically modified organism (GMO) foods to be labeled as such. In that sense, it is a victory.

Or, it will be. First, the Guideline – which is currently called the “Proposed Draft Compilation of Codex Texts Relevant to Labeling of Foods Derived from Modern Biotechnology” – must be adopted by the Codex Alimentarius Commission at its meeting in Geneva this coming July.

India: Gene alarm on GM crops

The scientists at the University of Delhi have shown that inserting a bacterial gene that makes a protein named Cry1Ac into genomes of plants appears to cause developmental defects, growth retardation and sterility in the plants.

Several experimental and commercial genetically-modified plants, including GM cotton cultivated in India and other countries, make the Cry1Ac protein which is toxic to some insects. The insects die when they try to eat parts of these GM crops.

EFSA Launches a Public Call for Scientific Data on Aspartame

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is launching a public call for data on the artificial sweetener aspartame (E 951) for consideration in a full re-evaluation to be completed in 2012 as requested by the European Commission. EFSA is undertaking a risk assessment of the safety of this food additive based on all available scientific and technical data.

In Shift, Feds Target Top Execs For Health Fraud

Previously, if a company got caught, its lawyers in many cases would be able to negotiate a financial settlement. The company would write the government a check for a number followed by lots of zeroes and promise not to break the rules again. Often the cost would just get passed on to customers.

Now, on top of fines paid by a company, senior executives can face criminal charges even if they weren't involved in the scheme but could have stopped it had they known. Furthermore, they can also be banned from doing business with government health programs, a career-ending consequence.

Ukraine: Former Premier Yulia Tymoshenko involved in fraudulent procurement of vaccines, says government

The department also said that it was Tymoshenko, who started the procedure of facilitating the registration of vaccines in Ukraine and promised that the parliament would struggle to overcome the president's veto and to allocate UAH 1 billion to fight the epidemic.

In September 2010, the state-run Ukrvaktsyna enterprise lodged a suit with a federal court in Portland (Oregon) against a U.S. company Olden Group, LLC, which is alleged to be part of an international conspiracy involving the fraudulent sale of vaccines and other pharmaceuticals.

The complaint alleges that from 2008 through 2009, the U.S. company Olden Group, LLC, which is owned by offshore companies registered in Belize and the South Pacific island of Niue, played a key role in a conspiracy to unlawfully mark-up the price of millions of doses of vaccines which were intended for use by the Ukrainian public health system.

On May 20, a court in the state of Oregon, the United States, has ruled that over $19 million spent illegally on vaccine at artificially high prices by the government led by former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is to be reimbursed to the Ukrainian national budget.

United States: Disease Death Rates Decline was Independent of Vaccines

‎"Belief in immunization is a form of delusional insanity."
Dr Herbert Shelton, USA

Statistics show clearly that the death rates from 'infectious diseases' declined quite independently of the introduction of vaccines. The most likely causes: Improved nutrition and better conditions of sanity. This page has graphs of the mortality rates from several diseases and their gradual decline over the last century.

My comment: The graphs in this article make vaccine adverse reactions a less than tolerable price to pay for the health of the many. The positive side of the risk/benefit equation is shown to be practically non-exitent, as diseases were well on their way out when vaccines were introduced, so *any* side effect of vaccination is too great a risk.

India: 128 kids died after vaccine in 2010, govt can't say why

More children in India are dying every year soon after being vaccinated, and the government has no clue why. Union health ministry statistics obtained under the Right to Information Act show that 128 children died in 2010 due to adverse effects after immunization (AEFI). That count has risen in the past three years, with 111 such deaths in 2008 and 116 in 2009.

Positive Association found between Autism Prevalence and Childhood Vaccination uptake across the U.S. Population

Using regression analysis and controlling for family income and ethnicity, the relationship between the proportion of children who received the recommended vaccines by age 2 years and the prevalence of autism (AUT) or speech or language impairment (SLI) in each U.S. state from 2001 and 2007 was determined. A positive and statistically significant relationship was found: The higher the proportion of children receiving recommended vaccinations, the higher was the prevalence of AUT or SLI. A 1% increase in vaccination was associated with an additional 680 children having AUT or SLI.

DVD: "Vaccines and Brain Development" - Dr. Russell Blaylock

CDC officials claim vaccines are safe and effective. Is that true? If vaccines are safe, why did the incidence of autism increase from one case of autism in 10,000 American children to one case of autism in 150 American children after the massive childhood vaccination program began? If childhood vaccines are safe, why are 560,000 vaccinated children afflicted with autism while non-vaccinated Amish and Mennonite children rarely have the disease? Why has the incidence of asthma, allergies, autoimmune disease, Type I diabetes, and neurologic conditions dramatically increased in vaccinated children?

The greatest threat of childhood diseases lies in the dangerous and ineffectual efforts made to prevent them
(Robert S. Mendelsohn M.D.)

I know, as I write about the dangers of mass immunisation, that it is a concept that you may find difficult to accept. Immunizations have been so artfully and aggressively marketed that most parents believe them to be the "miracle" that has eliminated many once-feared diseases. Consequently, for anyone to oppose them borders on the foolhardy. For a paediatrician to attack what has become the "bread and butter" of paediatric practice is equivalent to a priest's denying the infallibility of the pope.

Knowing that, I can only hope that you will keep an open mind while I present my case...

Homeopathy: The most irrational yet effective remedy in the world for radiation illness and its prevention

So, the real question is not if, but how exactly we should use homeopathy in order to protect ourselves and our children. Specifically, we must know how to prepare homeopathic remedies from contaminated food, water, air, and from intoxicated bodily fluids. In addition, one needs just a few dropper glass bottles and a clean water supply stored in advance. By serially diluting and mechanically agitating contaminated material, one will gradually, in a matter of minutes, as presented in detail in homeopathic books, including mine, turn the poisonous material into its energetic antidote.

Can this whole thing be really that simple, effective and cheap? Just two years ago, the Cuban counterpart of the NIH undertook the largest experiment in the world engaging 2.5 million people in mass homeopathic vaccination, using one of the methods presented in my book. Its target was a deadly infection, leptospirosis, affecting millions of people in Cuba annually. The epidemic sickens and kills by causing meningitis, heart and multiple organ failure and where, even following conventional vaccinations, thousands of people still fall ill and some die. The study turned out to be a stunning success with no death and practically, no illness.

Director of Massachusetts “Shock School” Resigns After Being Indicted on Criminal Charges

The director of the Judge Rotenberg Center (JRC) of Massachusetts, which uses electric shocks to punish children and young adults with disabilities, has resigned in the face of criminal charges. Disability Rights International documented the use of electric shock and long-term restraints at this facility in our report Torture not Treatment published last year.

Matthew Israel, founder and director of JRC, was charged with misleading a grand jury and destroying evidence in relation to an incident in 2007 in which a prank phone call to the center from a person posing as an employee led to two children with disabilities being given dozens of electrical shocks for absolutely no reason.

WHO: Cell phone use can increase possible cancer risk

Radiation from cell phones can possibly cause cancer, according to the World Health Organization. The agency now lists mobile phone use in the same "carcinogenic hazard" category as lead, engine exhaust and chloroform.

Before its announcement Tuesday, WHO had assured consumers that no adverse health effects had been established.

A team of 31 scientists from 14 countries, including the United States, made the decision after reviewing peer-reviewed studies on cell phone safety. The team found enough evidence to categorize personal exposure as "possibly carcinogenic to humans."

Video: Saving the world economy from Gaddafi - Gold Dinar

Humanitarian aid to Libyans may be little more than a cover for a war to prevent the widespread introduction of a gold based currency that could replace the US dollar and revolutionize the trading of oil, according to this video.

Is Ripple the Future of Money?

Ripple is an open source project to create a new type of decentralised currency based on trust between friends. While Ripple’s technical development is ongoing, many of the core ideas are in place, as well as some prototype implementations.

My comment: "Excellent article and great explanation in simple, understandable terms of the potential of Ripple as a currency.

Once the code is polished up and ripple can run in a decentralized way, we really do have a chance of making our own money. That is all we need to keep an economy flourishing, even in times when things are as bleak as they are.

Today, our official monetary systems are being co-opted by speculative, financial interests and they are less and less apt to serve money’s primary function, which is the mediation of exchange and the keeping track of debit and credit for those economic exchanges.

Ripple may be just in the nick of time to save the day. As old money gets less and less functional, we make the new on our own."

NASA Chief Scientist: Rossi eCatalyzer "Could Change Geo-Politics / Economics"

The most interesting, and promising, at this point, in the farther term, but maybe not so far, is low-energy nuclear reactions. This has come out of years of people producing energy but not knowing what it is — and we think we have a theory on it. It’s producing beta decay and heat without radiation. The research on this is very promising and it alone, if it comes to pass, would literally solve both [the] climate and energy [problems.]
