USA: Health Freedom on the back burner as elections approach
THE SECRET POLITICAL ISSUE by Jon Rappoport
In a radio interview I did with Jonathan Emord, the most successful American lawyer in cases launched against the FDA, Emord told me he has sufficient reason to believe the FDA never intends to abide by the court decisions rendered against them. That’s right. In other words, the FDA is a rogue agency.

In another interview, this one with Dr. Barbara Starfield, of the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, Starfield confirmed that, in the wake of her 2000 finding that FDA-approved drugs have been killing Americans at the rate of 106,000 people a year, no federal agency has approached her to consult on ways of reducing this horrendous outcome. Not in the past ten years. Her virtually unchallenged report, published in the July 26, 2000, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, has stirred no government response.

How much willful political ignorance and avoidance does it take to walk away from A MILLION DEAD AMERICANS over the last ten years?

Europe: Health Alliance worried about future of traditional herbs
The joint initiative aims to help facilitate the development of three distinct regulatory regimes for herbal products in Europe. These are:

1) a food supplement regime for common herbs and herbal products that have been associated with foods, the diet and food supplements for many years;

2) a modified, simplified product registration scheme for traditional medicinal products born out of a substantially amended European Directive (24/2004/EC) that fulfils its originally proposed purpose of allowing ready registration of over-the-counter products intended for use without the supervision of a practitioner, and;

3) a new regulatory framework specifically for statutorily regulated herbal practitioners, in which products are dispensed following specific recommendation by the practitioner.

Burn injuries rapidly deplete vitamin E
An analysis of eight children with third-degree burns over much of their body found they lost almost half of their stored vitamin E in three weeks, even though they were being given about 150 percent of the recommended daily allowance of vitamin E and other nutrients in a high-calorie diet.

Researchers are not certain what the implication of such rapid vitamin E depletion may be, but concluded in their report that "the depletion of vitamin E may be a very significant problem in patients with burn injury" and other forms of severe trauma.

Lack of vitamin D connected to breast, colon cancer
Two new vitamin D studies from the University of Rochester Medical Center suggest intriguing ties between a deficiency of D and breast and colon cancer, particularly among African Americans.

Magnesium Goes with Everything
by Carolyn Dean MD ND
In How to Change Your Life with Magnesium I report on a few people who when they first start taking magnesium they felt worse. They felt fatigued or more toxic or their blood pressure becomes too low. One person even said they felt more anxious.

What’s the reason for such an extreme reaction? I believe that some people may be so deficient in magnesium that when they start taking it they turn on the hundreds of enzymes that have slowed down to a crawl. Now with magnesium they are driving hundreds of metabolic functions and that excess activity might exhaust the body or rev it up making them feel more anxiety.

My advice for these reactions is to take less magnesium to begin with. There is no allergy to magnesium...

Hemp Is the Far Bigger Economic Issue Hiding Behind Legal Marijuana
If California legalizes pot, it will save the state millions in avoided legal and imprisonment costs, while raising it millions in taxes.

But with legal marijuana will come legal hemp. That will open up the Golden State to a multi-billion-dollar crop that has been a staple of human agriculture for thousands of years, and that could save the farms of thousands of American families.

How the US FDA gave Monsanto free reign to introduce GM foods
Dr. Pribyl knew from studies that toxins could be unintentionally created when new genes were introduced into a plant's cells. But under the new edict, the government was dismissing that risk and any other possible risk as no different from those of conventionally derived food. That meant biotechnology companies would not need government approval to sell the foods they were developing.

The scientists were displaying precisely the concerns that Monsanto executives from the 1980's had anticipated - and indeed had considered reasonable. But now, rather than trying to address those concerns, Monsanto, the industry and official Washington were dismissing them as the insignificant worries of the uninformed. Under the final F.D.A. policy that the White House helped usher in, the new foods would be tested only if companies did it. Labeling was ruled out as potentially misleading to the consumer, since it might suggest that there was reason for concern.

GMO: Monsanto's Losing Bet on GM Sugar Beets
Monsanto rapidly conquered the market. By this year's spring planting, Monsanto's patented GM seeds covered a jaw-dropping 95 percent of sugar beet fields. (Monsanto has managed to quietly turn the American sweet tooth into a gold mine -- it also dominates the seed market for corn, the source of the number-one U.S. sweetener, high-fructose corn syrup.)

But back in August, Monsanto suffered yet another of a continuing line of setbacks, when a federal judge effectively nixed the USDA's approval of GM sugar beets. The agency had failed to adequately assess the environmental impact of planting the high-tech seeds, the judge ruled.

Further HIV/AIDS Enlightenment out of Italy
That HIV does not cause AIDS is again demonstrated, this time in a doctoral thesis, “Endogenous retroviruses as confounding factors in the pathogenesis of AIDS”, by Chiara Matteuzzi, mentored by Dr. Stefania Pacini and Dr. Marco Ruggiero. The work has just been accepted (with maximum marks) at the University of Florence, is in English, and is publicly available.

A common virus kills cancer cells
By the age of five, most people have been exposed to the virus, called reovirus. For some, it can trigger brief episodes of coughing or diarrhea while many other don't develop any symptoms. The body simply overpowers the virus. But what scientists have discovered is that the virus grows like gangbusters inside tumor cells with a specific malfunction that leads to tumor growth. That finding led researchers to ask: Is it possible to use the virus as a treatment?

Docs on Pharma Payroll Have Blemished Records, Limited Credentials
Drug companies say they hire the most-respected doctors in their fields for the critical task of teaching about the benefits and risks of their drugs. But an investigation by ProPublica uncovered hundreds of doctors on company payrolls who had been accused of professional misconduct, were disciplined by state boards or lacked credentials as researchers or specialists. Their misconduct included inappropriately prescribing drugs, providing poor care or having sex with patients. Some of the doctors had even lost their licenses.

When big pharma breaks the law, prosecute the CEO
Patient safety will remain at risk until big pharma's top executives are brought to book for their companies' actions, says Paul Thacker

Should Placebo Ingredients Be Disclosed In Trials?
When we talk about the placebo effect, the assumption is that the dummy pill is essentially identical to the real medication, but lacks the active ingredient. But what if that wasn’t so? What if the placebo contained something that might skew results? And how would anyone know if the the ingredients in a placebo are not disclosed? Which leads us to another question - should the contents be disclosed?

A new study suggests the answer is yes. A paper published in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that some placebos may actually taint research.

Mercury on the Mind
by Donald W. Miller, Jr., MD
A small dose of mercury that kills 1 in 100 rats and a dose of aluminum that will kill 1 in 100 rats, when combined have a striking effect: all the rats die. Doses of mercury that have a 1 percent mortality will have a 100 percent mortality rate if some aluminum is there. Vaccines contain [mercury and] aluminum.

Microwave radiation: WAKE UP CALL from electrosmog expert, Prof Olle Johansson
In the general arena, very much focus is on cancer, but maybe that's actually the least important effect, other effects being maybe much more important, much more general in a sense. For instance, impact on the immune system, which is supposed to protect you against microbes or molecules that enter your body, effects on fertility, the capacity to have children, grandchildren and so on, effects on various mental functions including short term memory. You have concentration capacity decreases after microwave radiation exposure, headache, sleep capacity, sleep quality, sleep length ... and I could keep on like this, but the public debate is very much focussed on cancer, which is of course very important, but the other effects that are reported in the scientific literature may be much more striking, much more serious, and may come also much earlier, because when you look at some of the scientific experiments, you can have effects within minutes, hours or days. For instance on the immune system, on the basis for fertility, on various subjective parameters like headaches, problems with your sleep quality, problems with learning capacity, concentration difficulties and so on...
