Pharmaceutical companies are once again interfering with your ability to access information about dietary supplements.The Senate is debating a bill that will enable the FDA to put vitamin supplement makers in jail for ten years if they cite findings from peer-reviewed published scientific studies on the label of their dietary supplements or their Web site.
The pretext for these draconian proposals is a bill titled the Food Safety Accountability Act (S. 3767).

Earlier this year, a former Pfizer exec amended his whistleblower lawsuit accusing the drugmaker of illegally scheming to boost Lipitor sales by misrepresenting product labeling and federal cholesterol guidelines; using misleading educational programs for doctors, and unlawful sampling kickback schemes that resulted in off-label marketing that allegedly defrauded Medicaid and Medicare.Not surprisingly, Pfizer filed a motion seeking to have the case dismissed, but last week, the US Department of Justice filed what is called a Statement of Interest that picks apart portions of Pfizer’s argument. Although the federal government declined to intervene, or join, Polansky’s suit, the act of filing the brief underscores the interest in how the courts go about interpreting and enforcing the False Claims Act.

Remember not so long ago when Prozac became the world's largest selling medication of any kind, and then for years how Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft took over many of the top 10 spots? Remember the explanations at the time--that they were wonder drugs and that 15-50 percent or more of Americans would need them some time in their lives?Now look what have become the new top selling drugs in the world: antipsychotic drugs like Risperdal, Zyprexa, Abilify, Seroquel, Geodon and Invega. UK government orders clamp down on psychiatric drugs in care homes
Doctors will be told to stop prescribing too many medications which act as a "chemical cosh" for those with dementia, and shorten the lives of 1,800 people a year.The action is part of a plan to improve the care of those with dementia, by improving the training of nurses and doctors, and closely monitoring the quality of services provided by care homes and hospitals.
Care homes will be told to review the use of all medications given to people with dementia, to reduce the numbers of people prescribed antipsychotic drugs which should only be used as a last resort.

New Study Shows GlaxoSmithKline's Rotarix Vaccine Causing Sometimes Fatal Intestine Twisting In Babies
FDA officials said the study showed an increased risk of intussusception - a twisting or obstruction of the intestine is sometimes fatal - in the 31 day period following the first dose. Rotarix vaccine suggest an increased risk of a serious bowel problem. The vaccine is typically given to babies at two and four months of age.Officials told the Wall Street Journal that they are now studying the preliminary results and will also review the final data next year when it becomes available.
