Mysteriously bees keep vanishing - Health Supreme NewsGrabs Monday, 31 May 2010

Mysterious bee disease on the rise in Erie region

beekeper.jpeg

Vorisek, like many other beekeepers throughout this region, had to replenish his bee farm. The hive disease eliminated 60 of his 100 honeybee colonies this past winter and spring.

An April survey of the Beekeepers Association's 130 members, many of whom are hobbyists, revealed the group had lost 66 percent of its honeybee hives, a staggering decline in the region's bee population.

A similar survey in April 2008 showed a 36 percent decline, and another in April 2009 recorded only a 30 percent dip, which Vorisek and others believed were positive signs that bees were making a slow comeback.

"The losses this year are pretty devastating," Vorisek said. "I expected some, but nowhere near this amount."

Beekeepers, scientists and researchers have been unable to unravel the mystery of colony collapse disorder, or why it cut such a disruptive path throughout northwestern Pennsylvania this year.

I wonder if anyone is ready to consider the electromagnetic option yet and to look at the microwave emissions of cell phone and similar towers that have been growing like mushrooms not only in the US, but all over the world as a general and increasingly present environmental factor that may be weakening the bees' immunity and interfering with their ability to navigate.

Oh - I forget, there is no evidence that our public communications microwave experiments have any negative influence on health - of bees or man.

EU drugs agency working with patient groups bankrolled by big pharma
European patients' groups, set up to represent the interests of the subjects of medical procedures in their dealings with healthcare systems, insurance firms and drug companies are in many cases bankrolled by pharmaceutical firms, according to a new report.

Complicating the situation, many such groups working with and on the board of the European Medicines Agency - the very EU agency charged with evaluation of medicines in the bloc.

US Court Rules in Favour of Free Speech on Health Claims
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lost its bid to overturn a health claim for selenium-containing dietary supplements last Thursday in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. District Court Judge Ellen Huvelle ruled unconstitutional the FDA’s censorship of selenium dietary supplement claims relating to the reduction of cancer risk. Jonathan Emord of Emord & Associates on behalf of the plaintiffs in the case (including lead plaintiff Alliance for Natural Health USA (ANH-USA); Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw; and the Coalition to End FDA and FTC Censorship). The verdict, unless reversed on appeal, protects the First Amendment right of dietary supplement manufacturers to provide “qualified health claims”, which accurately communicate the state of science concerning dietary supplements.

Robert Verkerk PhD, executive and scientific director of ANH International, said, "The verdict in our case against the FDA should be sending shock waves across the Atlantic to EFSA. If European authorities implement the Nutrition and Health Claims Regulation as planned in 2011, it is the European consumer that will be the main loser. Disease prevention using good diets and nutrients will effectively be thrown out of the window. EFSA needs to either shift to using credible evidence as in the US, or it should expect to argue its case in the courts.”

Vitamin E Research Ignored by Major News Media
If you think Medline and Wikipedia are biased, take a look through your newspapers and magazines. For example, have you noticed how the news media are quick to publish negative allegations about vitamin E, but slow to present the positive side?

Genetically Modified Soy Linked to Sterility, Infant Mortality
Without detailed tests, no one can pinpoint exactly what is causing the reproductive travesties in Russian hamsters and rats, Italian and Austrian mice, and livestock in India and America. And we can only speculate about the relationship between the introduction of genetically modified foods in 1996, and the corresponding upsurge in low birth weight babies, infertility, and other problems among the US population. But many scientists, physicians, and concerned citizens don’t think that the public should remain the lab animals for the biotech industry’s massive uncontrolled experiment.

Alexey Surov says, “We have no right to use GMOs until we understand the possible adverse effects, not only to ourselves but to future generations as well. We definitely need fully detailed studies to clarify this. Any type of contamination has to be tested before we consume it, and GMO is just one of them.”

UK: GM consultation challenged as partial to industry - GeneWatch head resigns
Dr Helen Wallace, the Director of GeneWatch UK, resigned her membership of the UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) Steering Group for the GM dialogue, with immediate effect. In a public letter of resignation to John Curtice, the Chair of the Steering Group, she declared that it had become clear to her that the purpose of the FSA process was nothing more than a PR exercise on behalf of the GM industry. She also believes that the process would be a significant waste of £500,000 of taxpayers money.

Dr Wallace is firmly convinced that the FSA are attempting to implement the GM industry’s PR strategy which aims to: maintain that GM crops will ‘feed the World’; lobbying to end segregation of GM and non-GM food and feed that is entering Britain and Europe, and; opposing the labeling of meat and dairy products from GM fed animals.

Glyphosate Tolerant Crops Bring Diseases and Death
For a long time, glyphosate has been promoted as the safest and most environmentally benign herbicide available. But glyphosate has many other effects that act synergistically on crop health and productivity that extends well beyond the plant into the soil ecosystem and the wider environment.

The first hints of these effects came from observations that glyphosate application greatly increases the severity and incidence of plant diseases, not just in the GT crops, but also in subsequent crops grown in the same soil.

Glaxo Diet Pill May Cause Liver Injury
The FDA has issued a warning that the popular Alli diet pill may cause a severe liver injury. The move comes three years after GlaxoSmithKline began marketing Alli as an over-the-counter version of Xenical, a prescription drug marketed by Roche.

Glaxo Tries a Linux Approach
Glaxo and others hope that sharing information and working together will lead scientists to come up with a drug for treating the mosquito-borne disease faster than the company could on its own.

The move is one of the largest experiments yet by the pharmaceutical industry to apply techniques of open-source development to drug discovery, based on the idea that collaboration by volunteers will create products that aren't owned by a single company.

The problems with Reglan: Drug causes serious movement disorders
Although a black box warning for tardive dyskinesia was announced by the FDA in February 2009, lawsuits filed against the makers of Reglan (metoclopramide) allege the drug companies knew for decades that the risk of movement disorders was much greater than acknowledged in previous labels.

Evelyn Pringle is warning pregnant women not to take Reglan for morning sickness, being they've obviously been targeted in an off-label marketing campaign without knowledge of the risk of developing the devastating movement disorder, tardive dyskinesia.

Gardasil is a Bad Idea: Part II
As a physician one's advice carries great weight and often even involves even life and death decisions. Now as one who frequently criticizes others as being entirely off base in many health related issues it must at least be entertained that one might fall victim oneself to those errors of reason which one claims are so frequent in others. Having said that, my strong recommendation to any patients or parents of patients is to unequivocally avoid Gardasil vaccination. And I have attempted to clearly present the reasoning and evidence for my position.

To physicians, I would also say that we have a responsibility both out of necessary compassion and to arrive at a well-supported diagnosis to first and foremost listen to what our patients are telling us. Well our patients have organized an international support group to deal with the tragic health effects they are telling us were caused by Gardasil vaccination. That should tell us something.

Tie Vaccines To Autism - Lose License
The doctor who first suggested a link between MMR vaccinations and autism has lost his license to practice medicine in the UK. Andrew Wakefield - whose 1998 study in The Lancet caused vaccination rates to plunge and a subsequent rise in measles - was removed from the UK medical register after being found guilty of serious professional misconduct.

History will vindicate (or not, as the case may be) Dr. Andrew Wakefield. What appears to have been a witchhunt to cancel his license was clearly inspired by a medical system run by and for the manufacturers of vaccines and pharmaceuticals. Wakefield has said he will continue his research into the connection between vaccines and bowel disorders, both associated with an increased incidence of autism.

MMR – autism scare: so, farewell then, Dr Andrew Wakefield

I am linking this piece on the UK General Medical Council's determination to pull the license of Dr Wakefield, not so much for the opinion piece itself, although I find it significant that the Telegraph asked its Strategic Events Editor to write it.

What is really interesting are the comments that follow Tom Chivers' opinion piece. It is the autism community, children and parents affected by the syndrome, who are "left out in the cold" by an arrogant decision to pull the medical license of a researcher because he reached a conclusion that is not in line with the official view and the vaccine paradigm. If researchers are punished for arriving at the "wrong" conclusions, then good bye medical research. All we will get are confirmations of what we already think we know. No new discoveries that might upset the applecart.

Has there been an investigation into the fact that so many seeds are genetically modified that they are reaking havok on the bee population. I think that here in lies a connection that I don't hear too many folks making the same connection. And why is that. Why has this connection not been made? I thing that the answers lie within these studies.
Say no to GMO's,,,...
