Vitamins Extend Cancer Patients' Lives - Health Supreme NewsGrabs Thursday, 18 February 2010

Cocktail of five vitamins may give cancer patients an extra two years

Cancer patients with terminal disease who take a daily cocktail of vitamins could extend their lives by two years or even longer, claim researchers.

Three out of four in a pilot study survived an average of five months longer than the expected one year, and some were still alive three years after treatment started.

Dr Bob Lister, co-author of the study by British and Danish researchers, said the results were similar to the survival gains from new drugs and in some cases better.

But the important difference was there were no side effects reported by patients taking vitamins, he said.

Now imagine taking those vitamins BEFORE you develop any form of cancer. Can you imagine the improvement in public health? Yes it's true, that would be a real disaster ... for the pharmaceutical companies that peddle "treatments" rather than prevention or cure.

High levels of vitamin D in older people can reduce heart disease and diabetes
Middle aged and elderly people with high levels of vitamin D could reduce their chances of developing heart disease or diabetes by 43%, according to researchers at the University of Warwick.

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that is naturally present in some foods and is also produced when ultraviolet rays from sunlight strike the skin and trigger vitamin D synthesis. Fish such as salmon, tuna and mackerel are good sources of vitamin D, and it is also available as a dietary supplement.

An important pre-condition for sunlight on the skin to produce vitamin D is the presence, in the skin, of cholesterol. Therefore, cholesterol inhibitors, also called statin drugs, although widely used, are entirely counter-productive. By blocking the liver's ability to produce cholesterol, those drugs prevent endogenous production of vitamin D, increasing our chances of developing heart disease.

Those drugs also come with - sometimes deadly - side effects. Some articles:

Cholesterol-Cutting Drugs Raise Diabetes Risk by 9% in Study
The researchers analyzed 13 studies of the medicines known as statins after a 2008 trial from London-based AstraZeneca unexpectedly found patients given Crestor had a 25 percent higher risk of diabetes. The new analysis involving more than 90,000 patients, published in the journal Lancet, shows the actual increase in diabetes is 9 percent, the risk is tied to the entire class of medications and the danger increases with age.

RDA for Vitamin C in Humans is 10% of USDA Standard for Guinea Pigs
An adult guinea pig weighs about one kilogram (2.2 pounds). Guinea pigs therefore need between 10 and 25 milligrams of C per kilogram.

In the US, an average human weighs (at least) 82 kg (180 lbs). That means the USDA's standards, if fairly applied to us, would set our vitamin C requirement somewhere between 820 mg and 2,000 mg vitamin C per day.

The US RDA (recommended daily allowance) for vitamin C is different than that. Quite different...

How to Learn More about Nutritional Medicine
If you need to locate a physician near you that uses orthomolecular (nutritional) medicine, you may wish to first try an internet search. Many practitioners have websites. McCAIN TO FDA: REGULATE JOE THE PLUMBER
On February 3, 2010, John McCain introduced to the United States Senate the Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010. Reflecting upon this poorly written bill, I am struck by the fact that John McCain apparently sees little difference between fissile material and dietary supplements. He is intent on regulating supplements as if they were radioactive enriched uranium rather than bioactive vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and botanicals that more often than not help people.

Why does this remind me of what happened in Europe with the EU food supplements directive? Because the same (pharmaceutical) forces are pushing for regulation ... now in the US. The purpose? Eliminate the competition of nutrient supplementation. It's bad for pharma's profits.

Forget Nutrition Charts, Eat What Grandma Said Is Good for You
In the last thirty years, we have had this kind of agriculture industrial complex, which by some measures has worked quite well. It's kept the price of food low; it's kept the food industry healthy; it's given us a lot of power overseas--we're big food exporters--but what we're getting in touch with, I think, is that the by-products of that system, or the unintended consequences and costs, are catching up--every thing from obesity to diabetes.

Because that was a system that specifically encouraged the consumption of cheap corn sweeteners, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils from soy, processed foods of all kinds, a lot of cheap meat. So, there's been a public health impact that's dramatic. That is what's bankrupting the health care system: the fact that half of us suffer from chronic diseases linked to the diet.

Forget About Cell Phones “Preventing” Alzheimer's
The signal Arendash used was not from a cell phone in actual use, but from a machine generating a “clean” high-frequency carrier wave that was not pulsed or modulated.

And pulsing is the problem.

Digital pulsed cell phones, portable phones, iPods, Blackberries, wireless laptops, home routers and similar devices piggyback text, speech and video data onto their respective carrier waves.

By sowing confusion and false promises based on fatally flawed procedures, the Arendash study can only contribute to increased cell phone and wireless use - and a growing Alzheimer's epidemic.

“The exposure system they used, with the central antenna, produces a head-first, whole body exposure. We know from our work that this is not an efficient system for exposing brain tissue and with this system it is very unlikely that the exposures to the brain were focused.”

India Rejects First GM Vegetable
“There is no overriding food security argument for Bt brinjal,” or genetically modified eggplant, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said at a press conference in the capital, New Delhi, yesterday. “Our objective is to restore public confidence and trust in Bt brinjal.” A moratorium will be imposed until safety studies are carried out “to the satisfaction of the scientific community,” he said.

Monsanto 'faked' data for approvals claims its ex-chief
Former managing director of Monsanto India, Tiruvadi Jagadisan, is the latest to join the critics of Bt brinjal, perhaps the first industry insider to do so.

On Monday, he elaborated by saying the company "used to fake scientific data" submitted to government regulatory agencies to get commercial approvals for its products in India.

The former Monsanto boss said government regulatory agencies with which the company used to deal with in the 1980s simply depended on data supplied by the company while giving approvals to herbicides.

Psychiatrists want to call being angry a mental illness. How utterly mad!
Do you live surrounded by clutter - ancient copies of magazines, your children’s old toys, articles you’ve clipped out of newspapers over the years?
If you find it hard to throw out things of limited or no value, you could be suffering from hoarding disorder.

There’s also ‘intermittent explosive disorder’, which involves occasionally becoming very angry suddenly. People who become very angry, like Mr. T in the A Team, could have 'intermittent explosive disorder'.

Most bizarre of the proposed additions is one defined as ‘getting a thrill at being outraged by pornography’.

It was also described as Whitehouse syndrome after the campaigner Mary Whitehouse, who objected to sexual content on TV.

Well, if anybody is mad here, it seems to be the psychiatrists...

Wakefield Inquisitioners Have Their Day
by Dr. Sherri Tenpenny
I’ve been asked many times over the last few weeks to share my opinion on the verdict of the U.K’s General Medical Council (GMC) about Dr. Andrew Wakefield and the retraction of his 1998 article, “Ileal-lymphoid-nodular hyperplasia, non-specific colitis, and pervasive developmental disorder in children” by the medical journal, Lancet. The many inquiries fall into four basic questions, answered below....

Paxil Birth Defect Litigation - First Trial A Bust for Glaxo
The first trial, in the case of Kilker v Glaxo, ended with a jury in Philadelphia finding that Glaxo "negligently failed to warn" the doctor treating Lyam Kilker's mother about Paxil's risks and the drug was a "factual cause" of Lyam's heart defects. The jury awarded the family $2.5 million in compensatory damages.

After the trial, juror Joe Mellon told Bloomberg that Glaxo did not conduct adequate studies on Paxil. "There were a couple of what I thought were safety signals and what the plaintiffs presented as safety signals that they should have maybe looked into further," he said.

New York New Jersey Mumps Outbreak - majority of ill were vaccinated
Vaccination status is known for 1,115 patients: 966 (91%) of 1,062 patients aged ≤18 years and 149 (33%) of 456 patients aged ≥19 years (Table). Of these patients, 976 (88%) had received at least 1 dose of mumps-containing vaccine before the outbreak, and 839 (75%) had received 2 doses. Among patients aged 7--18 years, the age group with the majority of cases and for whom 2 doses of MMR vaccine is recommended, 93% had received at least 1 dose, and 85% had received 2 doses.

The CDC says: "Although mumps vaccination alone was not sufficient to prevent this outbreak, maintaining high measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccination coverage remains the most effective way to prevent outbreaks and limit their size when they occur."

I leave it to you to draw your own conclusions about the effectiveness of vaccines.
