Preliminary evidence suggests that swine flu may prove relatively mild, though scientists warn against drawing firm conclusions from on-the-fly early research.Wired.com has learned that Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory computer scientists Jonathan Allen and Tom Slezak did not find similarities between swine flu and historical strains that spread widely, with catastrophic effect.

This study highlights, once again, that natural folates, abundant in green, leafy vegetables, asparagus and lentils, have more benefits and less risk than synthetic folic acid. Whilst there is little doubt as to the benefits of supplemental folic acid for reducing the risk of birth defects, when given to pregnant women, and those planning pregnancy; there are doubts as to the wisdom of giving higher doses of the synthetic vitamin to the older population, who may already have developed precancerous lesions in the gut.
Vitamin D Deficiency and Inflammation in Women
A University of Missouri study is the first to report a correlation between increased concentrations of an inflammatory marker called serum TNF-a and vitamin D deficiency in healthy women. This investigation may shed some light on the role vitamin D plays in preventing certain diseases associated with inflammation, including cardiovascular disease.Researcher Catherine Peterson, an assistant professor at the University of Missouri, said her study results support the need to re-examine the biological basis for the dietary reference intake (DRI) for vitamin D.
Compounds from rosemary fight against mutagenic effects of radiation
In two separate studies, scientists in Spain found that nothing fights radiation damage to micronuclei like a simple garden herb known as rosemary. They noted that ionizing radiation causes the massive generation of free radicals that induce cellular DNA damage. They studied the protective effects of several compounds against gamma ray induced chromosomal damage in micronuclei testing by adding various compounds to human blood before and after irradiation. When the compounds were added after gamma-irradiation treatment, the protective effects relied not on scavenging ability, but on activity against free radicals already present in the cells, such as lipoperoxy radicals which are mainly responsible for continuous chromosomal oxidative damage.The fact that carnosic acid and carnosol found in rosemary are fat soluble allows them to provide highly asignificant protective anti-mutagenic activity. Even the most powerful water-soluble antioxidants lack the capacity to protect against gamma ray induced damage.

It is a huge result for pro-natural lobbyists and underpins what most of us know already – that we the people the people of Europe really don’t want GM products. French Green Party adopts motion to limit electromagnetic radiation
They recommend the adoption of an overall limit to exposure of the general public: 0.6 V/m for hyper frequencies (mobile phones, wifi, wimax, cordless phones) and 0.25 micro tesla for extremely low frequencies (electric current, power lines, transformers etc.)
They also demand that epidemiological studies of cumulative exposure be performed and that environmental assessments and future legislation should consider the impact of electromagnetic radiation.
200 percent increase in cardiovascular medication costs $5 billion in Canada
The number of prescriptions in Canada for cardiovascular medications has been increasing over the past decade, with a 200% increase in costs, found a new study in CMAJ (Canadian Medical Association Journal). In 2006, total costs of cardiovascular medications exceeded $5 billion, with statins accounting for almost 40% of the expenditure.Perhaps this kind of cost overrun will finaly force health officials to look again at the cost/benefit ratio of statin drugs and to confront their hugely destructive side effects (see Lipitor: Side Effects And Natural Remedy)

Here is a first timid admission (see previous link) that maybe, maybe, statin drugs do have some heavy side effects (like dissolving people's muscle tissue causing much pain and - in extreme cases - death by kidney failure).

Florida: Psych drug rules for foster kids ignored
Child-welfare doctors and case managers routinely failed to complete legally required treatment plans, share information or properly document the prescribing of powerful psychiatric drugs for children, according to a new state study of 6- and 7-year-olds medicated in state care.It is insane to give powerful psychiatric drugs to kids to begin with - and then the minimal rules to make sure the damage done isn't too great get disobeyed as well. Perhaps use of those drugs on kids should be outright prohibited!
Zimbabwe: Health Ministry looks into vaccine effects
Health Minister Dr Henry Madzorera had earlier said his ministry was aware of the reports of prolonged side effects, adding that investigation teams would be deployed to assess the situation."We have been hearing about these cases from media houses and parents, but our health centres have not given us any detailed reports with regard to these claims.
"As a ministry, we are going to carry out investigations to determine if these cases are true. What usually happens is that most children experience a fever that lasts for a day or two after immunisation," said Dr Madzorera.
US: Legislation Introduced to Require First Comparative Study of Vaccinated vs. Unvaccinated Populations
Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Christopher Smith (R-NJ) have introduced the “Comprehensive Comparative Study of Vaccinated and Unvaccinated Populations Act of 2009,” HR 3069, legislation that would require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to conduct a comprehensive, peer-reviewed, comparative study of vaccinated and unvaccinated populations, which has never before been completed.“Vaccines have been instrumental in reducing the incidence of many once-common diseases, but we owe it to parents and children to study and resolve the questions that have arisen over the possible link between vaccines and neurological disorders,” said Maloney.
